The Blue Water Arts Council (BWAC) of the Community Foundation of St. Clair County is initiating a new and exciting project and we NEED YOUR HELP!
As you are aware, throughout the Blue Water Area there are many examples of public art, architecture, galleries, museums, and other physical structures that are of significant value to our artistic and cultural heritage. Unfortunately, many visitors to our area, as well as a number of our residents are not aware of these assets or their significance. The BWAC is planning to create an “Arts & Culture Trail Map” that will showcase these structures. The map will be featured on our website, and it is our intention to share it with other tourism and travel websites throughout the state. We also will create a colorful brochure featuring the map for visitors and residents to increase awareness of the many fine opportunities we have in our area to enjoy the arts.
Think about it! This project has the potential to not only be an asset to our artistic and cultural community, but also to enhance tourism, commerce, and education.
Currently, we are taking inventory of everything that might be important: architecture, public art, monuments, art galleries, museums, centennial farms, etc. This is how you can assist us! To insure we don’t miss anything, you can download a short form that can be completed and returned; or to save postage, you can also complete the form online. (preferred) We will collect this information and decide what should be included.
If you know of anyone in your area who might be an additional resource, could you please forward this information to them? Please lend your energy and expertis |

WDET is encouraging the growth of Metro Detroit's arts and culture scene by helping individual organizations get their message to the broader public. Our goal is to connect amazing people, groups, and visions for the cultural health of the Detroit region. WDET’s Support The Arts (STAR) Program provides free on-air promotion and air-time to Southeastern Michigan’s non-profit arts and cultural organizations. Established to help these organizations reach a wider audience than their modest budgets typically allow for, the STAR Program will spotlight two groups per month with two weeks of dedicated promotion time each, for a total of 36 profiled organizations within a 12-month period.
If you have any questions about the program, we encourage you to email us at star@wdet.org.

RAIN BARREL PUBLIC ART PROJECT!
The official kickoff will be March 15th, but we wanted to let the cities, townships, villages and service organizations know what’s coming…
The purpose is to: • Encourage fresh water conservation… • Raise awareness that stormwater is the most common pollutant to our fresh water resources… • Use the Arts to encourage public dialogue… • Bring people in the region together to celebrate the Arts and our incredible fresh water resources!
There will be a variety of ways to participate…
A “call to artists” will be made for a cash prize competition in several categories: • Professional • Students ~ College and High School • Amateur
Organizations can purchase a barrel and paint it themselves or pay to have an artist paint it for them ~ this is a great way to show that you’re “in the conversation about water conservation!!” This would include cities, townships, villages, scouts, gardening clubs, 4-H clubs, nonprofits, environmental groups, businesses, churches, etc. ~ it’s a great way to put your group’s message out in public regarding who you are and what you’re doing!
Individual residents or families that feel they need some guidance can purchase a barrel and sign up for one of the painting workshops at Studio 1219
WHAT? NO PAINT FOR YOU? Folks that do not want a painted barrel may order one unpainted, complete with fixtures and screening for $50.00! A short 30-minute presentation will be given each week on how to install your rain barrel and what you need to do for winter.
To order a rain barrel, to sign up for a class, or get on an email list for up-to-date information, email info@studio1219.com Or call the Studio at (810) 984-2787
