The Blue Water Arts Committee of the Community Foundation of St. Clair County is providing $10,000 in funding to coordinate the implementation of the first large scale public arts project in Port Huron.
Beginning this July, fifteen major art pieces will be installed and displayed throughout downtown Port Huron. The pieces will be displayed for two years through a program with the Sauve Art Foundation out of Brighton, Michigan. Other cities such as Royal Oak and Birmingham have also collaborated with the Sauve Art Foundation to bring public art to their downtowns.
The BWAC is leading the coordination of the “adoption program.” Each of the fifteen pieces of art are up for adoption for $1,500 which covers the costs for the two year program for each piece. If you are interested in adopting a piece, please contact Lindsay Redlawsk at 810-984-4761.
May 21, 2010 UPDATE:
Four sculptures have already been place in Downtown Port Huron along with additional pieces in St. Clair and Marine City.
We are still looking for sponsors to adopt some of the pieces.

The final schedule is being completed and will be posted in the coming months at www.BlueWaterFilmFestival.com.
“Your first film festival last fall was arranged with high regard to both class and professionalism,” 2009 Viewer’s Choice Winner and film-maker Denn Pietro said. “You not only cared about your community, but also for the films that shared in your festival. From the moment I walked down the stairs of the kick-off party, I felt welcomed into the celebration. I knew at that moment that perhaps this festival could be different. And it was.”
The non-profit Blue Water Film Festival has recently launched a new website that was completely created and generously donated by two Baker College students, Michael Kennedy and Justin Blue.
“We’re excited to offer multiple new, exciting events throughout the year as venues are being confirmed,” states Co-Executive Director Karen Palka. “One of our newest additions was the invitation to join the Blue Water Fest in downtown Port Huron in July. We will host a ‘Movie Tent’ on Friday, July 16th and Saturday, July 17th from 3 pm - 10 pm showing short amateur and class |

The Blue Water Arts Council (BWAC) of the Community Foundation of St. Clair County is initiating a new and exciting project and we NEED YOUR HELP!
As you are aware, throughout the Blue Water Area there are many examples of public art, architecture, galleries, museums, and other physical structures that are of significant value to our artistic and cultural heritage. Unfortunately, many visitors to our area, as well as a number of our residents are not aware of these assets or their significance. The BWAC is planning to create an “Arts & Culture Trail Map” that will showcase these structures. The map will be featured on our website, and it is our intention to share it with other tourism and travel websites throughout the state. We also will create a colorful brochure featuring the map for visitors and residents to increase awareness of the many fine opportunities we have in our area to enjoy the arts.
Think about it! This project has the potential to not only be an asset to our artistic and cultural community, but also to enhance tourism, commerce, and education.
Currently, we are taking inventory of everything that might be important: architecture, public art, monuments, art galleries, museums, centennial farms, etc. This is how you can assist us! To insure we don’t miss anything, you can download a short form that can be completed and returned; or to save postage, you can also complete the form online. (preferred) We will collect this information and decide what should be included.
If you know of anyone in your area who might be an additional resource, could you please forward this information to them? Please lend your energy and expertis |

WDET is encouraging the growth of Metro Detroit's arts and culture scene by helping individual organizations get their message to the broader public. Our goal is to connect amazing people, groups, and visions for the cultural health of the Detroit region. WDET’s Support The Arts (STAR) Program provides free on-air promotion and air-time to Southeastern Michigan’s non-profit arts and cultural organizations. Established to help these organizations reach a wider audience than their modest budgets typically allow for, the STAR Program will spotlight two groups per month with two weeks of dedicated promotion time each, for a total of 36 profiled organizations within a 12-month period.
