The arts are vital to the life of our communities. The Blue Water Arts Council (BWAC) works to strengthen our communities by fostering greater participation in arts and culture within the Blue Water Region. The focus of BWAC is to increase funding and collaboration among existing arts and cultural organizations, local businesses. BWAC wants to develop the general public’s appreciation and involvement in the arts. The BWAC is a committee within the Community Foundation of St. Clair County and formed as part of a strategic initiative to provide increased funding to support arts and cultural related programs, projects, and organizations. The BWAC is comprised of local art organizations, leaders, supporters and artists.
In the year 2001, Michigan was ranked in the top five states nationally for funding arts and culture. After severe budget cuts in 2007, Michigan now is ranked among the last of all fifty states. It was clear that if we wanted the arts and cultural opportunities to flourish in the Blue Water Area, it was time to form a regional arts council. There is no better time than now to get our local communities, donors, businesses, and arts and cultural organizations together to improve our region’s quality of life through creative and cooperative programs.

| The mission of the BWAC is to strengthen our region’s communities through greater participation in arts and culture. This rich cultural environment will enhance economic, educational and community development in the Blue Water Area, along with positioning the region as a cultural destination. |

| The Blue Water Arts Council will focus on grant-making for local arts and cultural organizations, as well as generating new funding to support the arts in our region. Through its comprehensive website, the BWAC will encourage collaboration among existing arts and culture-related organizations, and provide a framework for collaboration with local businesses. In addition, the website will connect the public to the arts, provide a vehicle for resource-sharing, and publicize opportunities for artists to participate in events and exhibitions. |
